The Framework

The 33 Tools Framework

Most career books tell you to update your résumé and start applying. That’s like telling someone to start driving without knowing where they’re going. The 33 Tools framework is different — it’s a complete system that covers every stage of career transformation, from fixing what’s broken on your résumé to investigating employers before you accept an offer.

Build Your Foundation (Tools 1–7)

Before you apply anywhere, fix the fundamentals. Write a résumé summary that actually works (the Gabriel Summary), find what drives you, learn to read job descriptions like a recruiter does, remove titles that get you screened out, uncover hidden reasons you’re being passed over, add the keywords that get you found, and format everything so it can be skimmed in seconds.

Research and Position (Tools 8–16)

Now you’re ready to be strategic. Research salary ranges so you negotiate from strength. Understand the different types of recruiters and how each one works. Define the characteristics of your ideal employer, build a target list of companies, set up alerts to track them, follow their careers pages for new openings, understand career ladders so you know your next move, read other people’s résumés to sharpen yours, and write the résumé you want to have a year from now.

Connect and Evaluate (Tools 17–26)

With your target list built, it’s time to connect and investigate. Network online with specific scripts that actually get responses. Learn the STaRS framework to understand what stage a company is in before you join. Prepare for interviews by learning how to invite the truth instead of getting sold a fantasy. Then investigate employers thoroughly — employee turnover on LinkedIn, financial statements, employee reviews, customer reviews, and government records. Volunteer strategically to fill skill gaps. And regularly cull your target list to stay focused on the best opportunities.

Navigate and Grow (Tools 27–33)

The final tools are about resilience and long-term growth. Learn not to take rejection personally — there are dozens of reasons a position doesn’t get filled that have nothing to do with you. Anticipate economic shifts and adjust your strategy accordingly. Keep a personality folder of assessments and reflections that reveal your core strengths. Commit to lifelong learning through certifications, courses, and strategic degrees. Know when to hire a career counselor versus a career coach. Understand how to switch jobs, industries, or both using a 2×2 framework. And master Boolean searches to find anything — companies, résumés, government records — faster than everyone else.

Each tool includes a recap and to-do checklist

This isn’t a book you read and put on a shelf. Every tool ends with specific actions you can take today. The to-do lists build on each other — complete one, and you’re set up for the next. By the time you’ve worked through all 33, you’ll have a completely different relationship with your career.
