The Adapter archetype card: two overlapping rectangles morphing on navy, title The Adapter and tagline Your job still exists. The question is for how long.

The Adapter

Your job still exists. The question is for how long.

This is where you are right now, not who you are. Retake the assessment when your situation shifts or after 90 days.

Where you are right now

You can see the writing on the wall. AI, automation, or process redesign is coming for parts of what you do, maybe already. The smart move is to reposition now, while you still have a paycheck and time to be strategic. Foresight is the Adapter’s advantage. Denial is the Adapter’s trap.

The shape of this archetype

What it feels like. Anxiety about the future layered over present stability.

Where it can go wrong. Waiting too long. By the time the change is obvious, everyone else will be repositioning too, and the competition gets fierce.

What matters right now. Identify what is automatable in your role, double down on what is not, and build toward roles that combine human judgment with technical fluency.

Repositioning is easiest while you’re still in your role. The book and companion workbook walk you through these tools in order, with weekly checklists you can run quietly. Most Adapters reposition over six to twelve months while still drawing the salary that funds the change.
